NLP Hackathon Organized by WG4

On April 14th and 15th, MULTIPLEYE hosted an engaging two-day hackathon at New York University in Tirana, Albania which brought together participants from seven different countries. This event provided a unique platform for collaboration and innovation, focusing on improving eye-tracking technology and its applications in Natural Language Processing (NLP).

The hackathon aimed to encourage creativity and technical skills among participants, allowing them to work on various projects. Teams had the chance to enhance support for a range of eye trackers, including Pupil Labs and Tobii, and to upgrade the PyMovement library. Additionally, participants were encouraged to form their own teams to develop innovative ideas that use eye-tracking data for NLP applications. The format of the event was mainly hands-on, enabling attendees to explore the technical aspects of eye-tracking technology in depth.

Importantly, the hackathon was open to everyone, including Master’s students, which encouraged a diverse range of participants to share their unique perspectives and skills. This inclusivity enriched the collaborative atmosphere, fostering a spirit of teamwork and shared learning.

Overall, the event was a great success, showcasing the potential of eye-tracking technology and its applications in NLP, while also building a vibrant community of innovators and technologists. Participants left with new insights, skills, and connections that will undoubtedly influence their future work in the field.
