The meeting will take place on 21-22 January 2025, in Enschede, Netherlands, at the DesignLab and BMS Lab at the University of Twente, Netherlands.
The main objective of the meeting is to find out the use of divergent methodological practices for data collection across different lab settings. Although manufacturers describe the use of the equipment, numerous aspects of experiment design and methodology depend on the researchers collecting data.
A spectrum of differences across the labs, from the infrastructure (e.g. the light conditions, noise) to the procedure for data collection (e.g., where the experimenter sits during data collection), may eventually hamper the integrity of the research methodology on eye movements in reading. The specific goal of this meeting is to prepare a repository of data collection methodology to support hands-on practice in eye-tracking data collection settings. This repository will include detailed lab equipment specifications and their components and video recordings to exemplify the procedures. If we develop sufficient material, we plan to prepare a methodological article for publication for eye-tracking data collection and reporting.
We expect the participants to have hands-on experience collecting eye-tracking data, be willing to provide technical details and video recordings from their labs and contribute to standardization efforts. We will also discuss possible other dissemination activities for WG2 Experiment Design & Methodology.
Please note that everyone who is a member of the action is eligible to apply for attendance and will be reimbursed upon the completion of the event if they are elected by the COST Selection Committee.
