STSM Testimonial: Eye-Tracking Training and Research Collaboration at POLIN, Zagreb

Špela Rot is a master’s student in psychology at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana, Slovenia. Her research interests lie in cognitive psychology, particularly how reading processes interact with cognitive functions such as working memory.
She completed her STSM at the POLIN lab, Faculty of Education and Rehabilitation Sciences, University of Zagreb, from 14/12/2024 to 22/12/2024. During this period, she learned how to operate, set up, and perform reading task experiments using the Eyelink Duo and worked on Slovene translations for MultiplEYE stimuli.

In December 2024, I had the opportunity to visit the POLIN lab in Zagreb for my STSM, where I gained invaluable hands-on experience with eye-tracking equipment. Under the guidance of my host, Dr. Eva Pavlinušić Vilus, I became familiar with the setup and calibration process, deepening my understanding of eye-tracking methodologies in reading experiments. Additionally, I worked on Slovene translations of stimuli and administered psychometric tests.
Beyond the technical aspects, the networking opportunities were just as rewarding. I had the privilege of learning from inspiring researchers, including the head of the laboratory, Prof. Marijan Palmović, and PhD student and research assistant, Tomislav Radošević, whose insights and expertise were invaluable. Engaging in discussions and demonstrations with the lab team was particularly motivating as I embark on my research journey.
Adding to the experience, my visit coincided with the holiday season, and Zagreb’s festive atmosphere made my stay even more memorable.
I am deeply grateful to Eva Pavlinušić Vilus for her invaluable support throughout my STSM and to COST Action and MultiplEYE for this incredible opportunity for collaboration and growth. I look forward to continuing my work with Eva and the MultiplEYE team in the future.
